Shiny new home styling arrival
In the spotlight: Pagazzi
This week at DCO we’re really happy to bring Pagazzi Designer Lighting into our home styling category. To help you create your perfect lighting design, we’re starting with the basics - the difference between the tree main light bulb temperatures; warm, cool and daylight.
Founded in 1980, Pagazzi Lighting is the UK's biggest independent lighting retailer. We wanted to go with them because of their experience, expertise and incredible selection. Also, like us, they’re a family run business who pride themselves on great customer service.
Mood Lighting
Your surroundings have a big impact on your mood. Do you feel awake? Energised? Calm? Or sleepy? Sure, the design of a space influences all of this, but nothing as much as the lighting. Which begs the question; how do you know which bulbs to go for?
Warm lights are closer to natural lighting. Their yellowish emission makes them ideal for evenings, as they go well with our brain cycle and help us to relax better. If you want to create a cosy mood, warm lighting is the way to go.
Try:
Mixing an industrial style lamp with a warm bulb and see how this typically ‘colder’ not as cosy design suddenly transforms your space into a cosy sanctuary.

Cool Vibes
We know what you’re thinking, if warm lighting is so great, what do we have cool light bulbs for? Cool lights are great for spaces that you need to feel awake and on your A game. Think home gym, home office - and actually, we’re partial to a nice bright cool light in a galley kitchen.
Try:
Putting a bright white bulb into a gorgeous statement floor lamp to give your work space a real glow up!

Bright Ideas
Looking for a cheat sheet for which bulbs go best in each room? We always say lighting is personal. No two families use a room in the same way. Different bulbs create different vibes. However… as a general guide.
Living room:
We say go for warm light: it creates more of an ambience and helps you relax
Bedrooms:
We say go for a warm light: it will help you wind down before bed.
Avoid cool blue lights in a bedroom. They disrupt our circadian rhythms which can impact the quality of our sleep.
Bathrooms:
We say go for a warmer tone: the softer light is more flattering and who doesn’t want to feel good in their bathroom?
That said: It’s great to have a brightly lit mirror that helps you see where your make up is going
Dining rooms:
We say go for warm light or something dimmable so you can adjust the mood. That way it’s bright enough for people to see what they’re eating, but you can crack down the lights for when the port and after eights come out.
